4 Options for Stained Teeth

Posted on: November 22, 2018

Wondering what to do about your stained teeth? Whether you have a few small stains on your teeth or many large stains, there is a solution available to you. Some people are simply more susceptible to having stained teeth. Others tend to only get stains on their teeth from time to time and for that reason, are looking for the ideal options for removing any and all unsightly stains forming on their teeth.

Stained teeth = two different categories

When someone has stained teeth, the stains will either be external or internal. An external stain is caused when something affects the outside of the tooth. Common causes include stain-causing drinks like tea and coffee, foods like blueberries and smoking cigarettes. An internal stain is caused by the inside of the tooth structure and often occurs after a root canal treatment has been performed or as one ages.

#1 A professional teeth cleaning

A professional teeth cleaning involves making an appointment with a dental office, which is able to remove any extrinsic staining someone has on one or more of their teeth. A professional dental cleaning is always suggested as the most ideal way for anyone to get their teeth cleaned, allowing them to show off their new, bright smile with confidence.

#2 Bleaching

There are a few over-the-counter bleaching products people can use to remove any extrinsic stains on their teeth. It is important to understand that these options will only work to a certain degree, as the ingredients are not as strong as what can be used in a dental office.

#3 At-home stain-removing remedies

There are quite a few natural remedies one can use to help minimize extrinsic tooth stains, including but not limited to brushing with hydrogen peroxide or baking soda and eating more fruits and vegetables.

#4 Tooth restorations

When someone has stains on their teeth for intrinsic reasons, there are a few dental restoration options available: dental fillings, dental veneers, dental caps, etc.
